What is the season of Lent?
Lent is a penitential time where we reflect on the sufferings of our Lord on his way to the Cross at Calvary. It is a time where we “crucify ourselves.”
On the first Sunday in Lent, we focused on the topic of fasting and how the devil tries to stand in our way in our journey with Christ.
This Sunday, Lent II, we focus on our own human frailty. The fact is that we can do nothing of ourselves. We must submit all to Christ. We are that gentile woman coming to Christ and begging for mercy. We come broken and out of options. We fast and we struggle. It is only through Christ that we find strength.
As we continue on this Lenten journey, remember that Christ is the focus. We are fasting to be more like Christ. It is not about what we are giving up, but the journey to be more like Christ.
P.S. We will continue to update this as we get further into Lent. Please feel free to share.
In Christ,
Fr. Brandon Cribbs
